I was very excited when I heard that an iPad® is coming out, actually I was under the impression that it is a Computer type of deal, but my first impression is:
Dang; it looks like an overgrown iPod Touch®. Sure it runs iWork and maybe some other nifty apps, but it is still not really a computer. Right now, I could not see a reason why I would want this device.
The iPad can use either a 3G or WiFi connection, which would mean that someone (AT&T or someone else) will find a reason to jack up the Data rates again, just as they did with the appearance of the iPhone.
Furthermore I am not necessarily a fan of ‘censorship’ as to what software I can use and what I can’t.
Now we are at the subject jailbreaking. The question here is: Will the iPad be jailbreakable or will it be a tethered jailbreak just like the one for the iPhone 3GS ?
<A tethered jailbreak requires the user to jailbreak their device, everytime it has been rebooted>.
I do understand why Apple does not want their Devices to be jailbroken, security would be one reason, but is it really necessary to take every responsibility away from the end-user and thus open revenue streams for the company and their partners ?
So due to the reasons above, the iPad for me is just a little toy I can live without.
Don’t even get me started on the whole cloud computing issue, I think that’s where the iPad aims to go to.
Let me know your thoughts on iPad (pro / con). I am really curious.
