First off, let me say that I am not trying to be holier than thou here. I’m not the worlds healthiest eater by any means. I try… I really do, but to act like I’ve never ingested a Big Mac would be a lie. That being said, I must give a wag of the finger to KFC and their new “Double Down” chicken sandwich. What is it exactly? I’ll let the Colonel himself tell you:
The new KFC Double Down sandwich is real! This one-of-a-kind sandwich features two thick and juicy boneless white meat chicken filets (Original Recipe® or Grilled), two pieces of bacon, two melted slices of Monterey Jack and pepper jack cheese and Colonel’s Sauce. This product is so meaty, there’s no room for a bun!
Really Colonel Sanders? Is this what America needs?
You are what you eat so the saying goes. I agree with that. I also agree with a point that comedian and social commentator Bill Maher made about the state of America’s health. Maher argued that one of the reasons health care costs are so high is because Americans stay sick. Americans stay sick partly because of the of the food we put into our bodies. Regardless of facade that fast food companies have put up for us recently of “healthy menu choices”, Colonel Sanders and all the rest of them want you to get sick, because they want you to eat this sandwich and all the other ridiculous meat, cheese and more meat and cheese combinations they have come up with. Why? because it makes them money…
So if you are what you eat as I said before, then I’m a fish taco from Mamacitas, the best fish taco in Asheville and official fish taco of integritive, and if you ever see me eating a Double Down chicken sandwich from KFC, right after you make me eat a bunch of crow… just go ahead and shoot me.

I was with Tom when this disgraceful meal was ordered. Scariest part was that he walked to the counter and asked for the “heart attack sandwich” (and can it be called a sandwich when the bread is also meat???) the woman merely asked, “would you like the combo?”
It really is a great meal, though, if you want all the 1380mg of sodium without all the empty calories of bread.
I just had one of these, it tastes about like it looks – salty greasy meat and cheese. Way too expensive for what you get and how it tastes. Maybe I’ll learn my lesson and start bringing my lunch in like I want to.

“Is it the responsibility of the company or the people eating to keep america healthy?”
Well, I think obviously the greater responsibility falls on the people eating. You don’t have to eat this sandwich, nobody is holding a gun to our heads. However if you read the definition of corporate social responsibility, you find this sentence:
“business would embrace responsibility for the impact of its activities on the environment, consumers, employees, communities, stakeholders and all other members of the public sphere”
If during the development of this product, anybody at KFC honestly thought this is really a healthy eating option for the American public, I think they were definitely fooling themselves.
Is it the responsibility of the company or the people eating to keep america healthy.
I think it all starts with education and self-awareness. We need to teach the littles at an early age that meaty greasy fast food = illness, plain and simple.
The next step with be a chicken sandwich where the bun is chicken and the filling is chicken.
I am ready for a healthy fast food franchise, but Americans are so addicted to this fatty and sugary food, no one would go there.
